One of the campaigners for the restoration of the 1890 Leas Lift Carriage, Bob Mouland, raised over £235 for the project from members of the public. Bob paraded a sign-board that he had made, to draw people’s attention to the Appeal, along the Leas on Friday 15th December 2006, on the night of the re-opening of the Bandstand. Many of the crowds who had gathered for the Bandstand re-opening, and the accompanying Christmas carols, were pleased to contribute their loose change to the worthy cause. Bob even received two mentions over the public address system from the Salvation Army Captain, Mark Rose, who was conducting the carol concert.

Bob Mouland said:

“Folkestone’s residents and visitors gave a clear mandate that they consider the carriage, awaiting restoration, a high priority, because they contributed a total of £235.50 . What generous people, ensuring that their town’s heirloom moves a step closer to being renovated and returned to the front of the Leas lift lower building, mounted on a section of track, as a tourist attraction.”
